Hereweka Harbour Cone Trust - Darwin's Barberry Control, Otago Peninsula
Back to Projects
Hereweka Harbour Cone Trust
Habitat Restorations Aotearoa was contracted by the Hereweka Harbour Cone Trust and private landowners to control areas of Darwin's Barberry on the Otago Peninsula.
Control methods were combinations of basal ring barking, chainsaw felling, cut & paste and drill and fill. This involved crawling through native bush to identify Barberry. Our extensive knowledge of native and exotic species meant a range of species were able to be efficiently controlled. Our rangers took note of all plant native plant species that were present which led to the discovery of the only known Matai tree on the Hereweka Harbour Cone.
