Meridian Energy - Takiroa Wetlands

This is a collaborative mahika kai project where H.R.A, Meridian Energy in partnership with Ngāi Tahu and landowners Jan and Geoff Keeling are working to aid in the restoration of the Takiroa stream and wetland complex.
We have carried out three phases of Spring plantings, a total of 13,000 native sedges, shrubs and trees. These plantings have endured release maintenance and ongoing targeted weed removal has occurred on blackberry, boxthorn and willows. 
In 2023 we set up a predator control line which has proven effective for the removal of mice, rats, weasels, stoats, ferrets, hedgehogs, possums and feral cats.
