Habitat Restorations Aotearoa offer landscape design for a range of scales. We also specialise in providing landscape assessments in response to regulatory requirements.

We have experience providing landscape design and landscape assessments across New Zealand for a range of projects and clients, including industrial, residential, infrastructure, and recreational projects for government and private organisations, as well as for individuals.

Our designs are driven by the environmental potential of the landscape, as well as cultural and social values. We work within project practicalities and site constraints, to produce creative and practical designs that meet stakeholder aspirations.

Landscape Design

At Habitat Restorations Aotearoa, we tailor each design response to our clients' visions and aims, as well as the unique characteristics of each site. We ensure our designs are practical to implement and are well versed at collaborating with other disciplines to ensure a cohesive design outcome.

Landscape Assessment

Habitat Restorations Aotearoa has extensive experience undertaking landscape assessments, including collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams. 

Our landscape assessments align with Te Tangi a te Manu: Aotearoa New Zealand Landscape Assessment Guidelines, provided by the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects Tuia Pito Ora (NZILA).

We have undertaken landscape assessments in varying regions and districts throughout New Zealand, and are practised at familiarising ourselves with different council plans and documents.

McMillan Park Playground

Working collaboratively with the Dunedin City Council Parks and Recreation Team, in consultation with Kāi Tahu (through Aukaha), to provide a concept plan for the upgrade of the McMillan Park playground.

The design process included analysis of the existing equipment and site layout to understand project priorities to achieve the highest impact within project parameters.

The final design included a natural play area, a tower with two slides, inclusive play elements (including a carousel), swings, hammock, climbing net, seating, and new soft fall with an autumn leaf pattern.
